Jacque and Chris at the Driskill

This was one for the books! We absolutely loved working with this couple. Summers in Austin are more than just a little warm, so getting to work in a beautiful indoor venue is a serious plus. They opted for a church wedding and had a dinner reception at the historic Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin. This event was coordinated by Something to Celebrate, and the photos taken by The Mill Photography Studio.

How we created the look

Floral arrangements were a focal point in the room, so we wanted to make sure that they didn’t disappear once the house lights went down and the dancing got started. We used our wireless pin-spot lights to illuminate the centerpieces. These are great because they are so small that they go unnoticed by guests, but the effect they create is amazing!

We also used our uplights to compliment the colors in those arrangements, but still offered some dramatic contrast to the deeper purple in the dresses and accents. Like the pinspots, which have a very narrow radius, we used a wash light on the cake so that it really popped in the room!

For the dance floor we used a breakout pattern gobo, which set the stage nicely for toasts an announcements. To bring in a personal touch, the couple created a custom gobo that illuminated the wall with their names.

Christian stepped in to DJ and got the party started, and the couple had an amazing mix of Texas Country, 90s R&B, Pop, and Classic Rock. By the end of the night, everyone was singing along and dancing until the very end, when they did a dramatic exit into downtown Austin.
