2016 was an amazing year for all of us at Altared Weddings, and we have a lot of people to thank for it! We get to work with incredible venues and planners each week that make our jobs fun. They are trend-setters, organizational gurus, and friends. We can’t thank them all individually, but here are some of our favorite moments from 2016 out of the 362 events we participated in.
Weddings have seen a lot of changes over the past few years. If we had to reduce it all down to one dramatic change, it is that wedding are a lot more fluid than they once were. People are dropping formal dances for elaborate choreographed numbers and letting social media and custom websites play in to their celebrations. Even the most formal occasions are centered around the idea that you can still cut loose in your Sunday best. As a...more
We have seen a lot of fun wedding trends come through over the past few years. While rustic and boho themed weddings are fun, especially deep in the heart of Texas, the industrial wedding look has my heart at the moment.
This is a more versatile look than many may realize. The obvious connotations bring to mind urban lofts with exposed interior brick and stained concrete floors. While this is certainly the perfect...more
For most people, weddings are a big expense. In all likelihood, this is going to be the most extravagant party you will ever throw, and the price tag that goes with that can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. Everyone has their list priorities, and they are usually the things that they can rip from the pages of a magazine. For everything else, the appeal of a DIY approach or price-shopping for the cheapest vendor can be powerful. It’s...more

There are many different event supply groups that can offer crossover services to their client. For the customer, this is great! It reduces the number of contacts that you need to coordinate, and they can frequently save you money by reducing administrative fees by keeping it under one umbrella. Sometimes, though, you may want to know what to expect from us, and how Altared is different.
The Texas Hill Country has drawn a lot of attention for the exquisite weddings that take place there. Dripping Springs, which boasts being the Wedding Capital of Texas, has at its doorstep one of the most elegant venues in the Austin area. Ma Maison opened its doors only a few years ago, but has made a formidable mark as a unique and elegant location for brides. Jaclyn and Dustin hosted...more
1. How long will you DJ my wedding reception?
We start with a four-hour time block. If you haven’t already, read this post about how to time your reception. If we need to look at additional time for ceremony set ups and additional time on the dance floor, we can certainly do that for an hourly fee.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that everyone loves trivia. OK, so maybe that’s not exactly how that quote goes, but I am pretty sure it’s subtext. If you got the reference though, then you should definitely keep reading!
So, when you are debating your next corporate team building activity or looking for something to keep people excited during a casual event, consider one of our trivia gameshows. Here is how it...more
It has taken me entirely too long to make a stunning realization: Not everyone dances... I know, right?!? I dance through the aisles of the grocery store, but my husband would rather sit on the sidelines. No amount of liquid courage is going to persuade him to get up and shake his money-maker. It's just not his thing.
When planning how you will entertain your guests, it's good to think broadly. Not everyone will want to dance, and...more
When you first signed up with us, we spent some time talking about how there was a lot more to throwing a great party than to just have a guy playing music. It's about creating an atmosphere of entertainment and creating the right energy. Here are a few tips provided by our DJs to really create success on the dance-floor.more
A lot of couples sit down to plan their reception up until about the cake cutting or toasts. After that, it becomes a lot more fluid in the timeline. When you are planning your dance party, there are some things that are worth your consideration, especially when deciding how long things need to run. While there is no specific answer, here are some thoughts our Austin wedding entertainers have put together so you can make sure your reception...more
“The road to King River Ranch is undoubtedly one of the most unlikely journeys in the history of the Texas Hill Country, yet perhaps the most quintessentially Texan story of them all. The very land upon which the existing ranch was built tells the story of prosperity and well-being.”
Located just between Johnson City and Fredericksburg,...more
One of the really exciting things about working in the Austin events industry is watching what everyone involved can bring to the table to make incredible parties happen. There is a ton of collaboration between the event lighting, event entertainment, and event DJs, and other vendors' creativity flying around that is funneled into a single event, usually in one evening. The backdrop for this kind of cooperation can set the tone for the months...more

Erin and Chad partied all night at the gorgeous Rancho Mirando in Fischer, TX (just outside of Wimberley). This venue lends itself to great events with it's large open pavillion and funky, colorful artistic detail.
Our DJ, Christian, led the entertainment. Special dances were done to "Two" by Ryan Adams, "Somewhere...more
It seems simple enough- some tunes, some equipment, and a little time on a microphone. Anyone could do that, so why not save some cash and let my future brother-in-law do the honors? This is a scenario that we experience often during our consultations, and it’s rare that the outcome is what was expected. Having a friend DJ your event or wedding is something that you will want to take a lot of time to think about before you sign off on that...more
This was one for the books! We loved working with this couple! Summers in Austin are more than just a little warm, so getting to work in a beautiful indoor venue is a serious plus! They opted for a church wedding and had a dinner reception at the historic Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin. This event was coordinated by...more
When I was a kid I used to love the movie “Can’t Buy Me Love.” It’s an early example of Patrick Dempsey channeling those clichéd thematic elements from the 80s that we love so much. If you haven’t already seen it then make it your first priority after reading this article. At any rate, in one scene the social-climbing nerd preforms a dance he saw on a documentary and the crowds joins in with unfathomable fervor; it made the Macarena look like...more
Patricia and Matt were married at Mercury Hall in a fun and family-oriented ceremony. This couple was grounded and had some signature Austin flair.
When we sat down with them about their entertainment, they brought some great ideas to discuss. It was really important to the couple that their wedding DJ was going to be easy to work with and could be engaging during the...more
We've seen some of the most unique ideas at One World Theatre. Maybe it's the type of people it attracts, or maybe it's because you have access to one of the coolest venues in Austin! Tiffany and Mark utilized Christian's DJ services for the dancing portion of the night, but also included old movies and treats in the...more
In your planning process you’ve probably sampled 10 different cakes, put on 20 dresses, and spent hours online for the perfect shoes and centerpieces. Have you ever considered that you may be taking for granted the type of uplighting that’s being used at your event?
There is a difference and it’s important to know some of the trends going on in decor lighting to understand how it will impact your wedding. Decor lighting is designed to...more
